How to do Chinese acupuncture? First learn!

What to remember when you learn the acupuncture points? First you must learn the acupuncture Meridians (Channels)? It seems impossible? Still thousands have managed before you. So where is the trick? There is no trick. There is organization. You must go step by step. Remember this:There are three things you must learn by heart (it is easier that way):

1.      Which meridian is Yin and which one is Yang

2.      the order of the circulation of Qi in the body during 24 hours: Lungs – Large Intestine – Stomach – Spleen – Heart – Small Intestine – Urinary Bladder – Kidneys- - Pericardium- - Triple Energizer- -Gall Bladder – Liver.

 3.      The alpha numerical code of each point. You can try the Chinese name but it wouldn’t be serious…

·         Lung is Yin. After that there are two Yang and two Yin following each other, ending by the Liver which is Yin.

·         A Yin meridian starts or ends at the trunk.

·         A Yang meridian starts or ends at the head.·         Centrifugal: from the head or the trunk towards the extremities

·         Centripetal: from the extremities to the trunk or the Head

·         One Centrifugal follows one centripetal.

Now you write or type the last list on a piece of paper, in order to follow the procedure. You are ready. Let’s take an example:

SP-6.

Using the alpha numeric code it means sixth point of the Spleen meridian. If you have learned by heart the sequence of the meridians you know it comes after the Stomach and before the Heart.Large Intestine and Stomach are both Yang, so Spleen must be Yin.If it is Yin it must either start or end on the trunk. Here you must remember that the Lungs start at the trunk, so Large Intestine at the extremity, Stomach at the Head, so Spleen must start at the extremity. If it starts at the extremity it must be centripetal. Then you visualize the points of the Spleen meridian starting at the big toe, going upwards, and you find the sixth point.

This procedure is valid if you don’t have a handbook or a manual of Chinese acupuncture at hand. But at the beginning you use the texts. That is what I tell my students: go into a cabin, undress to your underwear, and draw the points following my system, and with the book. Then when they are at home they should train without the book.Well I can tell you that they still make mistakes, so they find this system very useful, because it is practical. It is not perfect, I could of course refine it, but it would take pages and pages. That would make it complicated when I am trying to make it simple.Next time I will detail what is essential when learning the meridians, but not essential!  Because learning acupuncture online or not on line must be organized and systematic.
